Comfort Food Recipes Paula Deen

Y’all know I love Southern cooking. It’s hearty and comforting, and in my opinion, there’s no food better than Southern food. Of course, Southern food isn’t always the healthiest option, as us Southern cooks love to cook with cheese, mayonnaise, lard, and, yes, butter.

A lot of us are trying to eat healthier these days so that we can live longer, more active lives to be around for our children and grandchildren as long as possible. But we also still want to enjoy our food. I’d be lying if I said I never ate fried chicken or mac & cheese anymore, but I don’t always go for the full version. In 2015, I released a book, Paula Deen Cuts the Fat, with 250 lightened up recipes, including plenty of healthy Southern recipes, like Oven-Fried Green Tomatoes, Pecan-Crusted Chicken Thighs, and Southern Potatoes GratinĂ©.

Paula Deen - As a young girl growing up in Albany, Georgia, Paula Deen never dreamed she would become an American icon. As a young mother, Paula was living the American dream — married to her high school sweetheart and raising two adorable boys — when tragedy struck. Her parents died, her marriage failed and she began a prolonged battle with agoraphobia. With her boys in their teens and her family near homelessness, Paula took her last $200, reached deep inside her soul and started The Bag Lady, a home-based catering company that marked the start of Deen's professional cooking career. With sons Jamie and Bobby delivering lunch-and-love-in-a-bag, beginning in June 1989, Paula turned her life around by sharing what she knew best, traditional Southern cooking.
